An Auburn police officer was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide on the night of Saturday, April 23, according to the Auburn Police Department. The officer was allegedly driving drunk and lost control of his vehicle when he hit and killed a pedestrian, according to the Seattle Police Department Blotter. According to the Seattle police blotter, at around 10:50 p.m. April 23, they received calls that a motorist had hit a pedestrian near the intersection of 15th Avenue West and Gilman Drive West in the Interbay neighborhood. 33-year old Michael L. Smith was arrested Saturday night after committing a series of criminal acts that ended in a man’s death. It started when Smith, who is a police officer with the Auburn Police Department, crashed into taxi cab. “According to court documents from King County, Smith first hit a cab on Alaskan Way, then tried to pull the driver out of the vehicle and fight him.” Mr. Smith was unable to get the cab driver out of the car. King County prosecutors say an off-duty police officer was driving 55 mph over the speed limit seconds before he lost control of his Mercedes-Benz, drove onto a sidewalk, sideswiped a telephone pole and fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday night in Seattle’s Interbay neighborhood.
