A police officer resigned from the Fort Pierce Police Department after being caught on camera punching and slapping a suspect at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. Former officer gets jail time for punching man at hospital

A police officer caught on camera punching a suspect at a hospital in Fort Pierce will spend some time in jail. Albert Eckrode, 32, pleaded no contest to charges of felony battery, official misconduct, and false report to a law enforcement officer of an alleged crime. Eckrode faced up to 10 years in prison. Instead, he will get 90 days in jail and two years of probation as part of his sentence.
