The family learned of the release of the officers’ names during the news conference, which sparked anger. Williams’ cousin, Channcy Baker, said they viewed the body earlier Wednesday, but was frustrated to learn about the release of the officers’ names from members of the news media who attended the news conference .... “They have to take that step and show that they’re willing to communicate and be transparent. If they want the community to work with them. It can’t be a one-sided thing, and that’s what it is right now. It’s a one-sided thing because they have the information, and they are refusing to give it away to the people who need it.”

Authorities identified the North Charleston man who was shot and killed by police early Jan. 16. Junnie Williams, 35, died at a hospital that day from gunshot wounds, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. The incident occurred off of Melville Road, the office said. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department responded to a car break-in at 4 a.m. off of Crossroads Drive, Harve Jacobs, police spokesman, said Jan. 16.
