Taxpayers Shell Out $5 Million After Cops Killed Man on ‘LIVE PD’ Over Failing to Dim Headlights

18 December 2021

Javier Ambler, a 40-year-old postal worker, was on his way home from a friendly poker game when he allegedly made the mistake of failing to dim his headlights when passing another vehicle. This is something everyone who is reading this article has likely done at some point in their life. However, because Ambler drove past a Williamson County sheriff’s deputy, an hour later, he’d be dead. Now, nearly three years after his death and the taxpayers of Williamson County have been put on notice that they will be shelling out $5 million to Ambler’s family as part of a wrongful ...

Deputies indicted on manslaughter charges in Javier Ambler death by Travis County grand jury

30 March 2021

Two years and one day after Javier Ambler II died in custody, a grand jury in Austin has indicted deputies who chased the Black father for a minor traffic violation that ended in a deadly encounter. Former Williamson County sheriff's Deputies J.J. Johnson and Zach Camden are charged with manslaughter after they chased Ambler, 40, in a 2019 pursuit that started because he failed to dim his headlights, and then used Tasers on him repeatedly while he gasped that he could not breathe and had congestive heart failure. Ambler died minutes later. "What we know is that Javier Ambler was ...

Former Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody arrested on new charges from deadly arrest with Live PD cameras rolling

Former Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody has been arrested in Travis County and charged with tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony. This stems from the deadly arrest of Javier Ambler II in March 2019. Chody, 50, was booked and released Thursday after posting $15,000 bail. KXAN camera crews were there when Chody — now sporting a beard — both walked into the courthouse and again when he walked out a short time later. It’s the second time in six months grand juries in Travis and Williamson Counties have indicted Chody and former Williamson County general counsel Jason Nassour, who worked ...

‘Live PD’ production company claims Williamson County deputies, APD officers unlawfully took Ambler footage at the scene

26 March 2021

The production company behind the now-canceled law enforcement reality show ‘Live PD’ is suing the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Austin Police Department, saying its footage of the Javier Ambler arrest was unlawfully confiscated by the agencies at the scene. The company, Big Fish Entertainment, also claims its name was smeared in the process of the investigation by the Williamson County and Travis County district attorney offices. Almost two years ago to the date, Williamson County deputies tried to pull over Ambler for failing to dim his headlights. The chase ended within Austin city limits, and Austin police officers ...

As Austin grand jury mulls charges in Javier Ambler death, 'Live PD' says it's been wronged

28 March 2021

Authorities at the scene of Javier Ambler II’s death illegally temporarily seized video from a TV reality show, according to a new lawsuit, which claims officials later wrongly blamed producers for “stonewalling” to hide the fact that months elapsed with no meaningful investigation in the case. The production company for the show “Live PD” made those claims in a 29-page suit that offers the now-defunct show’s broadest and most significant statements about the events surrounding Ambler’s death and provides its most complete account of what camera crews say happened that night. The federal suit filed late Friday, which lists the ...
