Why this record exists
Qualified immunity decides — often silently, at the motion-to-dismiss stage — whether people harmed by government officials ever get their day in court. Most coverage of it is written by law firms for insurers and police departments. This site is written for everyone else.
What we publish
Case analysis, doctrinal explainers, and reform tracking — in plain language, sourced to primary documents: slip opinions, docket entries, and the parties’ own filings. When we characterize a ruling, we link to it so you can check us.
Editorial standards
- Primary sources first. Every case discussed is a real case with a real docket number you can look up.
- No embellishment. We do not invent quotes, dramatize facts, or attribute motives the record doesn’t support.
- No paid placements. No sponsored content, no affiliate links, no advertiser influence on coverage.
- Corrections, prominently. If we get a fact wrong, we fix it and say so. Tell us.
Where we stand
This site is aligned with the movement to reform qualified immunity, and we say so openly rather than pretending neutrality. Advocacy is not a license to distort: the facts on this site are meant to hold up whether or not you share our conclusions. This site operates alongside the Ohio Coalition to End Qualified Immunity’s reform advocacy.
