Three times over the last decade city police officers have been fired for misconduct and each time a state arbitrator has ordered the city to rehire the officer. The latest was last week’s ruling by a judge to uphold an arbitrator’s decision to order Bridgeport to rehire Officer Michael Stanitis. In October 2020, the city’s Police Commission voted 5 to 2 to fire Stanitis for allegedly using excessive force while responding to a loud party complaint at a Colorado Avenue home on Oct. 21, 2017.
