On December 16, 2021, Deputy Niko Irizarry arrested a victim for trafficking in fentanyl and other narcotic charges. His bond was set to $55,000 and his next court date has been scheduled for March 14. In January, the internal affairs division received information that the arrest was not lawful. Sheriff Carmine Marceno assembled a major crimes unit task force to begin an investigaton into the arrest. A real estate broker was leaving the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant in Fort Myers, Fla., when a sheriff’s deputy pulled him over for an alleged traffic violation.
