On the evening of October 5, 2020, Sylvan Plowright called 911 about a potential break-in at his neighbor's home in North Miami-Dade County. When two Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) officers were dispatched to the area, he expected them to investigate the potential robbery — not tase and shoot his American Bulldog, Niles, to death.
