A police officer in Virginia pleaded no contest last week to charges that he shot his fiancée’s dog inside of their home and then fabricated a story that he was trying shoot a bear. Richard R. Chinappi III, a patrol officer with the Richmond Police Department, on Thursday formally pleaded no contest to charges of felony animal cruelty and giving a false report to police for fatally shooting the 27-pound beagle-hound mix last October, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
