5 December 2018, 8 October 2019

Frank Vickers was sitting on his couch watching “Jeopardy!” when he heard a knock at the door one evening in late September. Before he could stand up, a Bastrop County Sheriff’s deputy was standing in his living room. Vickers said the deputy told him to gather his belongings and get out of the house. 4 January 2019

Bastrop County Precinct 4 Commissioner Gary Lynn “Bubba” Snowden, 73, will be laid to rest Monday in Elgin after dying at his home on Thursday, three days into his new four-year term in office. Snowden’s funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Elgin, 205 W. Second St., with interment following at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 229 Pleasant Grove Loop, according to his obituary. “It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of County Commissioner Bubba Snowden, late yesterday,” Pape said in a statement Friday. “He was a valuable and respected member of our ...

Snowden’s daughter Tracy Ortiz in September purchased the home ...

Abuse of official capacity: While in office, Snowden was sentenced to one day in jail and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and $2,500 restitution after pleading guilty to one count of abuse of official capacity. In December 2017, Snowden was indicted by a Bastrop County grand jury on three counts of abuse of official capacity for using county property and personnel to resurface 0.8 miles of Wilbarger Creek Drive and put limestone base on Moon Brake Road, both private roads, “with the intent to obtain a benefit and harm and defraud another,” according to the indictment. “I am proud ...
