The Smith County Pct. 2 Constable was arrested today by the Texas Rangers. Black was released on a $1000 bond for each of his charges. Smith County Precinct 2 Constable Josh Black has been indicted on charges of official oppression and prostitution just days after being re-elected. According to judicial records, Black was indicted on the two charges on Thursday. A Smith County constable was arrested on Thursday for the second time. Josh Black, the Smith County Pct. 2 Constable, was detained for prostitution. He was released the same day on a $1,000 bond. Black was previously arrested in November 2020 and indicted on charges of official oppression and prostitution. The first arrest happened a few days after he was re-elected. Smith County Precinct 2 Constable Joshua Black sought sexual favors via text from a woman wanting supervised visitation services from his business to see her child, according to prosecution attorneys on Wednesday at the start of his official oppression trial. Smith County constable sentenced to jail time for official oppression

Joshua Black has been sentenced to six months in the Smith County Jail after being found guilty on charges for official oppression. A six-person Smith County jury found Constable Joshua Black guilty of official oppression. The jury deliberated two hours before reaching the final verdict. Smith County commissioners have begun the process to permanently fill the vacancy for the Pct. 2 constable position that was created with last week’s conviction of Joshua Black. He was found guilty of official oppression, which instantly triggered a judicial order to remove him from office. Smith County interim constable sworn in after predecessor convicted of official oppression

The Smith County Commissioners Court swore in retired law enforcement officer and security company executive Shawn Scott as the Interim Precinct 2 Constable. Scott was sworn into office on Friday morning by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Andy Dunklin.
