Nazario lawsuit delay denied

1 July 2021

A federal judge has denied Windsor Police Officer Daniel Crocker’s request to delay Army 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario’s lawsuit against him. Nazario, who is described in the lawsuit as of Black and Latinx descent, filed the lawsuit in Norfolk’s federal court April 2. It names Crocker and ex-Windsor police officer Joe Gutierrez as co-defendants, accusing each of racially-motivated police brutality during a traffic stop last December when both officers held the lieutenant at gunpoint and Gutierrez pepper-sprayed him. The two had pulled Nazario over for allegedly not having a rear license plate. Nazario had a temporary New York license plate ...

Windsor PD, Nazario settle subpoena fight

8 October 2021

Lawyers representing Army 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario and Windsor’s Police Department reached an agreement Sept. 30 regarding subpoenaed town records. Nazario is suing WPD Officer Daniel Crocker and one former member of the town’s police department, Joe Gutierrez, accusing each of racially motivated police brutality during a traffic stop last December when both officers held the lieutenant at gunpoint and Gutierrez pepper-sprayed him. The lawsuit describes Nazario as being of Black and Latinx descent. The two officers had pulled Nazario over for allegedly not having a rear license plate, though Nazario had a temporary New York plate displayed in his ...

State sues Virginia town over ‘discriminatory’ police practices
A violent traffic stop of a Black motorist in Windsor, Va., was captured on video

30 December 2021

Virginia’s attorney general filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking a court-ordered monitor for the police force in the small town of Windsor, in the Hampton Roads area, where a Black military officer was subjected to a violent traffic stop that sparked outrage after video of the incident became public last spring. The lawsuit follows a months-long inquiry in which Attorney General Mark R. Herring (D) said his office found a pattern of discriminatory behavior by Windsor police, including excessive traffic stops of African Americans, in violation of the Virginia Human Rights Act and the Virginia Public Integrity and Law Enforcement Misconduct ...

PD Whose Officers Brutalized A Black Soldier For Driving To A Well-Lit Area Sued By Virginia Attorney General

7 January 2022

Windsor, Virigina was the recipient of unflattering nationwide news coverage due to two police officers deciding a black driver -- and Army medic -- needed to be brutalized for seeking a well-lit area to pull over. The whole thing was caught on the officers' body cameras, including their threats to make Lieutenant Caron Nazario "ride the lightning" (a reference to the officer's Taser) as well as the officer's affirmation that Nazario was right to be scared to exit his vehicle. A low-speed, non-lengthy, non-chase of one hundred seconds led to several minutes of violence, threats of further violence, and violated ...

WATCH: Cops Attack Innocent Lieutenant, Threaten to Charge Him if He Complains About Beating—No Charges

8 August 2022

Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario was on his way home from a long day of work at his duty station in December 2020 when he was targeted by some very bad apples for revenue collection. This would be no simple extortion, however, as the cops would hold the U.S. Army soldier gunpoint, pepper spray him, and assault this innocent man for no reason. Now, nearly two years after he was attacked and assaulted, Nazario is finding out that the main culprit behind his assault, Joe Gutierrez, will face no charges. Although I find the video very disturbing and frankly unsettling, Gutierrez’s ...
